A man was arrested on Wednesday for detonating a small explosive device outside the Alabama Attorney General's office on February 27.

Kyle Calvert, a 26-year-old resident of the state, faces federal charges of malicious use of an explosive and possession of an unregistered destructive device for the incident, which occurred at 3:45 a.m.

No one was injured in the blast and no property damage was reported.

“Thanks to the work of the FBI and our state and local law enforcement partners, this defendant is being held accountable for allegedly detonating an explosive device outside of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement.

“The Justice Department has no tolerance for acts of violence targeting those who serve the public,” he added.

The charges carry a sentence of 5 to 20 years in prison if Calvert is convicted.
