A new poll of GOP voters showed that a majority of them want the next speaker of the House to be loyal to former President Donald Trump, according to the Washington Examiner.

In the poll by CBS News and YouGov, 59% said they wanted the next apeaker to show loyalty to Trump, while 58% said they also wanted the Speaker to be able to work with Democrats.

Over all, 71% of voters wanted someone that could work with Democrats.

A small majority, 51%, said they thought Rep. Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) ouster would not really change anything for the country. The rest were fairly split between thinking it would be bad for the country and that it would be good for it.

The two main candidates for speaker are Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA). Trump endorsed Jordan on Friday on his Truth Social page, saying that Jordan is strong on crime, the border, the Second Amendment, and the military/veterans.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who put forward the motion to vacate McCarthy's speakership, also endorsed Jordan, whom he called his mentor.
