Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said Sunday on Meet the Press that he thinks there's a strong likelihood that the U.S. Supreme Court will agree with President Donald Trump's executive order ending automatic birthright citizenship.

“I think there’s a good chance,” he told Kristin Welker. “I introduced legislation to end birthright citizenship years ago.”

Republicans are divided on the issue, which is understandable considering it has been deemed a constitutional right for the last 150 years.

Trump will argue that children born to parents who are citizens of other countries don't fit the meaning of the language of the 14th Amendment, which says they can be American citizens if they are "subject to" U.S. jurisdiction.

U.S. District Court Judge John Coughenour has blocked the executive order from taking effect for 14 days and called it "blatantly unconstitutional."

“I think it’s a cheap way to award citizenship,” Graham said in defense of Trump's order. “You should not be a citizen simply because you were born here.”
