Lib journalist demands Justices Sotomayor and Kagan retire before Biden's term ends

 June 12, 2024

Die-hard, Trump Derangement Syndrome-ridden liberals have pressured U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to retire while President Joe Biden is still president so that he can appoint a replacement before former President Donald Trump wins in November.

So far, Sotomayor, 70, has not given any indication that she's willing to do that. But now liberals are so desperate that some are calling not only for Sotomayor to step down, but also for Justice Elena Kagan to call it quits.

That was made apparent in a recent Vox piece written by senior correspondent Ian Millhiser, who argues that both of the female, liberal justices should step down given Biden's positioning in the polls and the likelihood that Trump will emerge victorious in November.

"I am begging the justices to learn from Ruth Bader Ginsburg's historic mistake," Millhiser wrote in the subtitle for his piece.

To give an idea of where he sits on the political spectrum, he wrote:

That means that, if Justices Sonia Sotomayor or Elena Kagan remain on the Supreme Court past this year, they risk allowing their seat to be filled by a convicted felon who tried to overthrow the duly elected government of the United States of America, inciting an insurrection at the United States Capitol in the process.

Poor Justice Kagan probably assumed she was safe from the rabid, retirement-pushing progressives in her party -- but she just has to go, Millhiser argued.

He defended the call for Kagan's retirement as he noted that even if Biden somehow manages to win the White House, Republicans are all but guaranteed to win control of the "malapportioned" U.S. Senate.

He wrote another paragraph explaining why he thinks Republicans have an unfair advantage in winning and holding Senate seats and noted that if the GOP wins back control of the Senate in November, they'll likely hold the upper chamber until the 2030s.

He also warned that Republicans could "permanently" control the Senate.

Millhiser wrote:

That means that, unless Sotomayor (who turns 70 this month) and Kagan (who is 64) are certain that they will survive well into the 2030s, now is their last chance to leave their Supreme Court seats to someone who won’t spend their tenure on the bench tearing apart everything these two women tried to accomplish during their careers.

Given his fear and his arguments, it sounds as if Millhiser wants the justices to retire so Biden can appoint a couple of 30-somethings to the high court -- presumably with the right DEI qualifications to boot.

"...Countless rights that millions of Americans take for granted will be on the chopping block if Sotomayor and Kagan are swapped out for, say, another Clarence Thomas," Millhiser added, for an extra dose of fear for the radical left.

While Sotomayor might eventually buckle to the pressure from people in her party like Millhiser, it's doubtful Kagan will even entertain the notion.

Hopefully, she even gets a little chuckle out of his piece.
