LA water chief 'aware of broken hydrants' months before fires: Report

 January 11, 2025

The city of Los Angeles is paying Janisse Quiñones WAY too much money to be the city's water chief, only to have hydrants run dry at the time they're needed most.

Los Angeles' water czar, who was hired in May on a $750,000 annual salary, is being blamed for a series of failures that's led to the wildfire devastation in California.

Mayor Karen Bass ordered the city to max out its budget to "attract private-sector talent," which led to Quiñones getting double the salary of her predecessor.

Now, the L.A. Fire Department is reportedly blaming Quiñones for leaving a nearby reservoir empty and non-functional and allowing fire hydrants to remain broken for months without addressing the problems.

The issues resulted in firefighters running out of water as they battled the horrific fires in California this week.

This isn't Quiñones' first scandal. From 2021 to 2023, she was a top executive at electricity company PG&E, which went bankrupt over liability for several massive wildfires in California.

DailyMail.com is reporting that "since her hiring at LADWP, Quiñones oversaw the shutdown and emptying of a reservoir in the Pacific Palisades during brushfire season. The shutdown meant firefighters battling the current Palisades Fire ran out of water faster, experts say."
