Kristi Noem's DHS confirmation hearing postponed

 January 16, 2025

South Dakota's Republican governor, Kristi Noem, who is Donald Trump's pick to lead the Department of Homeland Security, has had her confirmation hearing postponed by two days.

Now, Noem will appear before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Friday at 9 a.m. Previously, the appointment was scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 15.

A committee aide said that the delay was because of "a delay on the FBI background check for Governor Noem."

Noem isn't the only Trump pick whose hearing has been delayed by paperwork issues beyond their control.

Trump's nominee to lead the Department of the Interior, Republican Doug Burgum from North Dakota, also had his hearing delayed by two days.

Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee chair Mike Lee, a Republican from Utah, said that Burgum's delays were caused by the Office of Government Ethics (OCE).

"Despite his compliance and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee noticing the hearing in accordance with all rules, OGE has yet to complete its review. This bureaucratic delay is unacceptable," Lee said.

According to Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, a Republican from Wyoming, a "paperwork problem" was responsible for holding up former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard's hearing for her spot atop the U.S. intelligence community.

Hopefully those responsible for the delays are able to get their acts together soon, as America is eagerly awaiting the help of these Trump appointees to Make America Great Again!
