As of the time of writing, Kevin McCarthy says he has enough votes to become the new Speaker of the House of Representatives.
On Jan. 6, he was able to convince 14 Republicans to flip to his cause. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to reach the 218 vote majority that he needs.

Still, this is an improvement from the 203 and 201 votes of support McCarthy was receiving on Jan. 3 and 4.
But on Jan. 6, Representative Mike Garcia of California nominated Kevin McCarthy for Speaker of the House again, and he sounded confident doing it, saying they're on "the verge of victory" and adding:
This isn’t about Kevin McCarthy; it’s not about the 434 members in this chamber. It’s about the 330 million Americans across this land and its future. The person that will lead us on that journey will be Kevin McCarthy. He has earned this position.
