Kevin McCarthy endorses Donald Trump, appears to be angling for a cabinet position

 December 11, 2023

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy endorsed former president Donald Trump during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.

The statement came as a shock to many, as McCarthy was seemingly positioning himself as a centrist Republican fully willing to court the left, much like Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT).

However, that shock quickly dissipated as McCarthy's motive for endorsing Trump in 2024 was revealed.

During the interview, McCarthy said, "I will support the president. I will support President Trump." He was then asked "Would you be willing to serve in a Trump cabinet?" McCarthy replied by saying, "In the right position. Look, if I’m the best person for the job. Yes. Look, I worked with President Trump on a lot of policies. We worked together to win the majority."

McCarthy recently announced that he would be retiring from Congress and now we know that he believes his future is in the likely Trump administration.

Of course, this isn't good news for Trump supporters. Kevin McCarthy is exactly the kind of Republican that Trump often hired in his first term, and those hires ended up backfiring horribly. Trump shouldn't give McCarthy even a second look for any position in his administration.
