Kevin McCarthy could be on his way out as House Speaker after just months on the job

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) may already be on his way out as he has allegedly lost the support of important Republicans in the chamber because of complications over an upcoming budget proposal.

McCarthy is reportedly blaming House Republicans for failing to propose a budget and several Republicans view his attacks as undermining the party ahead of a crucial election cycle.

The speaker is openly feuding with Representative Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) and some Republicans believe that McCarthy is using those two as scapegoats to distract from his own failures in the leadership role.

Representative Ralph Norman (R-SC) seemed to reinforce this view with a statement saying, "The agreements made by Speaker McCarthy, among other things, is to begin the ten-year balanced budget NOW and with his initiatives & directives. It’s HIS responsibility to get the 218 votes to ensure our nation’s financial security JUST AS HE DID IN SECURING THE 218 votes for speaker."

McCarthy has only been on the job for three months, and there is already a strong possibility that Republicans could call a vote to have him replaced.

An unnamed Republican told Axios, "The members I've spoken with are just stunned by his rebuking of his budget chair, and certainly of our leadership. I can't imagine [he will last an entire term].”
