Kari Lake taking election suit to Arizona Supreme Court

January 3, 2023

Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake will appeal her election lawsuit to the state Supreme Court after eight of the 10 counts were dismissed and the other two were not found in Lake's favor.

Lake alleges that voting problems in Maricopa County were responsible for her narrow election loss to Katie Hobbs, who was secretary of state (and ironically, in charge of elections).

"I am standing up for the people of this state," Lake said. "The people who were done wrong on Election Day and the millions of people who live outside of Maricopa County, whose vote was watered down by this bogus election in Maricopa County."

Hobbs requested after Lake's lawsuit failed that she be sanctioned over the suit, but Judge Peter Thompson denied that request.

Thompson did require Lake to repay some of Hobbs' court costs, with interest, however.

This order may not stand if Lake's appeal turns out to be successful. Unfortunately, these suits rarely succeed, and the patently unfair election result will likely stand.
