Kamala Harris signs desk drawer in one of last public appearances as VP

 January 18, 2025

Kamala Harris has joined a century-old tradition by signing her name on the vice president's ceremonial desk, signaling that her time as vice president is almost over.

The tradition only takes place when the vice president is an outgoing one.

It must have really hurt Harris to sign her name without being the incoming president.

During the ceremony, Harris said that although it was her face that we saw representing the VP office over the last four years, it actually took the work of an entire team of dedicated people to make things happen.

In the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, Harris signed the drawer of the desk that has been used by every vice president since Lloyd B. Johnson, although the tradition does go all the way back to the 1940s.

Harris was the first woman to hold the office of VP.

She got to sign her name next to legendary autographs like Joe Biden and Richard Cheney.

As she signed, her husband, Doug Emhoff, was on hand to document the moment in photos.

Once Harris was done signing, the those in attendance started chants of "MVP!"

Whether she deserved the chants or not remains debatable. What is no longer debatable is the fact that Harris will be out of office very soon.
