Kamala Harris announces the creation of new department pushing 'red flag' laws

 March 24, 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris visited Parkland, Florida, which is the site of the nation’s worst high school shooting, the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas massacre that killed 17 children.

During that visit, she announced the launch of a new national office to support states implementing “red flag" laws.

Such laws are constitutionally questionable measures that assign "red flags" to individuals whom the government suspects could commit gun crimes. The aim of such legislation is to preemptively deny gun ownership to individuals who show red flags.

The new office, titled the Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center (ERPO), training and technical assistance, including educational opportunities and workshops.

Right now, existing laws allow for law enforcement to strip individuals of their weapons. These laws could be expanded and abused to strip Americans of their weapons for expressing "dangerous" political views.

No doubt that is the long-term goal of the Biden administration with this move.
