Judge Denies Bragg's Attempt To Stop Judiciary Panel's Subpoena

Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg tried to block a subpoena issued for former prosecutor Mark Pomerantz from the House Judiciary Committee, but U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil has apparently had enough of Bragg's recent molestation of justice.

Committee Chair Jim Jordan will now officially be allowed to question a former prosecutor of Alvin Bragg's office because the judge says the questioning may well a "valid legislative purpose."

"It is not the role of the federal judiciary to dictate what legislation Congress may consider or how it should conduct its deliberations in that connection," Vyskocil said. "Mr. Pomerantz must appear for the congressional deposition. No one is above the law."

A spokesperson for Jordan celebrated his boss' victory by saying that the decision "shows that Congress has the ability to conduct oversight and issue subpoenas to people like Mark Pomerantz."

Jordan has been wanting to question Pomerantz after he went through a very public resignation from Bragg's office in February 2022.

"You are uniquely situated to provide information that is relevant and necessary to inform the Committee’s oversight and potential legislative reforms," Jordan wrote to Pomerantz.

Bragg's office indicated its intent to seek a stay of the ruling pending appeal.
