Josh Hartnett injured in a crash with police
In a startling incident last week, actor Josh Hartnett found himself hospitalized after a car accident involving a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) patrol vehicle in Canada.
The 47-year-old star was injured while traveling as a passenger in an SUV that collided with a police car, an event that unfolded during his filming of a new Netflix series in Newfoundland, as Page Six reports.
The accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on Sept. 25 at an intersection, as detailed in an RNC press release. Hartnett was on his way home after a day of shooting for the untitled limited series.
Unexpected Collision Shocks Actor on Set
A source reported to CBC that Hartnett was not driving during the incident; he was a passenger in an SUV driven by a 59-year-old man. The collision resulted in significant damage to both the SUV and the RNC patrol vehicle.
Following the crash, Hartnett and the driver of the SUV were transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The male police officer involved in the accident was also taken to a medical facility as a precaution.
The RNC has confirmed that the case remains under investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. No further details about the cause of the accident have been released at this time.
Swift Recovery Surprises Fans and Crew
Despite the ordeal, a representative for Hartnett informed Page Six that the actor has already been discharged from the hospital. He has returned to work on the Netflix project without delay.
Hartnett began filming the limited series in August, set in the scenic region of Newfoundland. The story revolves around a small Canadian town under threat from a mysterious sea creature.
In the series, Hartnett plays a fisherman who takes a stand against the unknown danger. The cast also includes Willow Kean, Ruby Stokes, Rohan Campbell, and Kaleb Horn, though a release date has not yet been announced.
Balancing Hollywood with Personal Life Challenges
Beyond his current project, Hartnett has been selective about his roles in recent years. Back in 2021, while speaking to Sunrise, he explained his decision to step away from blockbuster films for the sake of his mental well-being.
He shared, “It’s about creating a good home life and being able to do things that are wild and wonderful like making films, which is such a privilege.” This reflects his desire for balance between career and family.
Hartnett resides in the UK with his wife, Tasmin Egerton, and their four children. During a May appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he offered a glimpse into his personal life.
Family Dynamics Add Humor to Life
He humorously noted, “My kids love to give me crap about being an American because I’m the only American in our house. I’m a foreigner in my own home.”
In the same interview, he added, “My middle one does a really good impersonation of me, [and] will just kind of turn to me and be like, ‘I’m Daddy, and I like pizza and I won’t mow the lawn.’ As American as it gets.”
Earlier this year, in March, Hartnett was also seen filming Verity in New York City alongside Dakota Johnson, marking his active return to the screen. His resilience following the recent accident highlights his dedication to his craft, even as he navigates the demands of family life and a thriving career in film.
