John Thune Will Endorse Tim Scott For President In 2024

May 23, 2023

Even though Ron DeSantis hasn't declared his presidential candidacy yet, he and former President Donald Trump are considered the two frontrunners for the Republican nomination for the 2024 election.

Senate Minority Whip John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota, isn't backing either of the big boys, however. He's planning on endorsing Republican Tim Scott from South Carolina.

Scott is expected to announce his campaign on May 29. Rumor has it that John Thune will be officially endorsing Scott once the launch is official.

Getting Thune, the Senate's number two Republican, behind Tim Scott is a massive win for Scott's campaign. There simply aren't many more influential Republicans in America today that John Thune.

Scott is probably going to need Thune's weight as well as a few more pretty big endorsements if he wishes to compete with DeSantis and Trump on a national level.

The name recognition alone that Trump and DeSantis are bringing to the race could be tough for Scott to overcome, but Thune has at least started Scott in the right direction.
