President Joe Biden's campaign team is reportedly mulling over utilizining TikTok despite a ban on the app from all federal devices having taken hold earlier this year.
TikTok is owned by Chinese company ByteDance, which means that TikTok and all the data that it gathers can be accessed by the Chinese Communist Party, raising serious security concerns over federal employees using the app.
The platform is one of the most popular with young Americans, and as such, the Biden campaign has a lot to gain from using the app.
However, the security risks are significant, thanks to the Chinese ownership of TikTok. While many other candidates have been using TikTok, none of them are part of the United States' executive branch.
TikTok collects an incredible amount of data, and it is a serious issue having a staffer next to the president using a platform that can collect things like location data and even access the phone's camera.
The Biden campaign will have to decide between reaching a larger number of young Americans through TikTok or protecting the president's -- and the nation's -- security.
