Joe Biden evacuates Sudan embassy, thousands still trapped as country descends into civil war

President Joe Biden ordered U.S. embassy staff in Khartoum, Sudan, to evacuate on Saturday as the country descends into a brutal civil war. While the operation to evacuate the embassy seems to have succeeded, there are still thousands trapped in Sudan.

The situation is eerily reminiscent of the evacuation from Afghanistan, and it appears that the Biden administration may have abandoned thousands of Americans in a warzone with no way out.

Undersecretary for Management Ambassador John Bass explained, "As a result of that uncertain security picture, as a result of the unavailability of the civilian airport, we don’t foresee coordinating a U.S. government evacuation for our fellow citizens in Sudan at this time or in the coming days."

Sudan is being torn apart by a war being fought by the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group that human rights groups say is led by "men with no mercy."

Hundreds have been killed, and thousands more have been injured in the fighting that has only grown more intense.

The White House claims that just one American has been killed, but it's questionable whether those still trapped in Sudan will remain safe. The Biden administration must act quickly to rescue Americans before more lives are lost.
