Joe Biden endorses arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin's alleged war crimes against Ukrainian's including children

March 19, 2023

President Joe Biden signaled his support for the International Criminal Court arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin to reporters on Friday saying the warrant was "justified."

Biden told reporters that "[Putin] has clearly committed war crimes."

The ICC's arrest warrant accuses Putin of being "allegedly responsible for the war crime of unlawful deportation of population (children) and that of unlawful transfer of population (children) from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation."

Ukraine has celebrated the ICC's warrant while Russia has responded by calling it, "outrageous and unacceptable."

Since the United States is not a member of the ICC, the warrant means little. However, President Biden's vocal endorsement of the warrant will further erode his ability to negotiate with Putin to end the war in Ukraine.

Accusations of war crimes have been flying from both sides since the war began. The one thing we know for sure is that thousands are dying, and the Biden administration seems to be doing little to negotiate peace.
