Jimmy Carter wants to live long enough to see VP Harris beat Trump in November: Report

 August 5, 2024

Former President Jimmy Carter is likely near his last days on Earth, given his health and age, and he recently revealed what his wishes are for his 100th birthday.

According to the New York Post, Carter will turn 100 on Oct. 1, but for his birthday, Carter hopes to be able to cast a vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party's official presidential nominee.

The former president's wife, former first lady Rosalynn Carter, died in November 2023.

Carter's grandson, Jason Carter, revealed recently that the former president told his son, Chip Carter, that he wants to make it that long so he can vote for Harris.

"I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris," he reportedly told Chip Carter.

In February 2023, Carter's health forced him into hospice care. Recent reports indicated that he likely doesn't have much longer to live.

Still, even at his age, Carter has politics on his mind and is reportedly greatly concerned about Harris beating former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

Georgia's early voting laws mean that Carter, should he make it a few weeks after his 100th birthday, can vote as early as Oct. 15.

The Post noted:

Eighteen months later, his grandson said he recently told Chip he was much more concerned about seeing Harris, 59, elected to the White House over her opponent, former President Donald Trump, 78, rather than reaching the century mark.

In May, Jason Carter revealed serious news regarding his grandfather's health, admitting that he's near the end of his life.

“He really is, I think, coming to the end that, as I’ve said before, there’s a part of this faith journey that is so important to him, and there’s a part of that faith journey that you only can live at the very end, and I think he has been there in that space," Carter said at the time.

Social media users offered mixed reactions to the news that Jimmy Carter wants to make it that much longer so he can vote.

"I always thought he was a Christian and taught the teachings of Jesus? Democrat party has positions opposite to Jesus on almost every issue," one X user wrote.
