For the second time in as many months, Republicans are threatening to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt because of his failure to cooperate with subpoenas involving documents that they want to see as part of an official investigation.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) said in a letter to Wray that his compliance with two subpoenas concerning the FBI's alleged targeting of citizens as "domestic extremists" has been "wholly inadequate" despite "several accommodations" the committee made for the FBI to do so.

The first subpoena in February was regarding FBI targeting of parents who spoke out at school boards, and the second in April dealt with Catholic pro-lifers.

"We write to notify you that if the FBI does not improve its compliance substantially, the Committee will take action—such as the initiation of contempt of Congress proceedings—to obtain compliance with these subpoenas,” Jordan wrote.

Similar threats were used successfully in June to force Wray to turn over documents that alleged President Joe Biden was part of a bribery scheme and had received a $5 million bribe.

No doubt, Wray will cooperate once again under threat of contempt, but it shows his lack of character that he won't follow the rules unless he's threatened.
