Jill Biden Revokes White House Invite For Iowa Basketball Squad

 April 5, 2023

There's a tradition in America where the champions of major sporting events are often invited to the White House to honor the hard work and dedication that the athletes put into mastering their craft.

First lady Jill Biden recently tried to break with that tradition by inviting not only the champions of the Women's NCAA basketball tournament to the White House, but the runner-up Iowa Hawkeyes as well.

That offer lasted until the champions, the team from Louisiana State University, took great exception to it, calling the idea of inviting the losers along as well "a joke."

"I know we’ll have the champions come to the White House; we always do," Jill Biden said on April 3. That's when she floated her unique idea. "So, we hope LSU will come, but, you know, I’m going to tell Joe I think Iowa should come too because they played such a good game."

It would have been the first visit of its kind from the runners-up.

But LSU star Angel Reese laughed at Jill's suggestion and called it a joke.

Jill rescinded her invitation shortly after.
