JFK assassination could have been a result of 'Operation Northwoods': Report
President Donald Trump shocked the nation upon taking office when he announced that he will declassify documents related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy Jr, among other historical figures who have been killed in a similar fashion.
The Daily Mail noted that there may be reasons why the JFK files have been withheld from the American public for so long, including a mysterious and frightening report from the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) in 1962 that detailed plans to commit crimes against U.S. citizens to justify a war with Cuba at the time.
The supposed plan was code-named Operation Northwoods, which "proposed enacting terrorism on US cities in a what is known as a 'false flag operation', before blaming Cuba in order to fool the Americans into supporting war efforts to oust communist Fidel Castro."
The conspiracy theory that JFK was killed by the U.S. government has always had teeth because of the documents.
"We could develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington, the eJCS document stated, proposing additional cities and violent acts that could be perpetrated.
It added, "A series of well-coordinated incidents will be planned to take place in and around Guantanamo to give genuine appearance of behind done by hostile Cuban forces."
The goal was to incite "hostility" toward Cuba to help justify the United States going to war with the communist nation.
The kicker? JFK reportedly rejected the idea of Operation Northwoods when it hit his desk. Low and behold, shortly after, he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.
The Daily Mail added:
The Operation Northwoods proposal drafted as part of a larger document titled 'Justification for US Military Intervention in Cuba.'
This top-secret collection of draft memorandum was written by the Department of Defense (DoD) and JCS and presented to then Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara in 1962. But the document was declassified in the CIA library.
The document proposed burning aircraft at airbases, starting rumors, and anything else to gain the public's widespread acceptance for going to war with Cuba.
While none of what's contained in Operation Northwoods is new, the release of additional documents could paint a more precise picture of what might have happened to JFK.
Trump has also ordered the declassification of files related to Martin Luther King Jr's assassination as well as that of Robert F. Kennedy.
Trump's supporters have cheered him for finally making the call.
It'll be fascinating to see what comes out of the upcoming document release.
