Jerry Seinfeld says 'movie business' is effectively over
Jerry Seinfeld has dropped a bomb on the entertainment industry.
He seemed to be lamenting the oversaturation in the entertainment industry that has left us without much quality despite seemingly limitless quantity, saying:
Film doesn’t occupy the pinnacle in the social, cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives.
"When a movie came out, if it was good, we all went to see it. We all discussed it. We quoted lines and scenes we liked," Seinfeld continued. "Now we’re walking through a fire hose of water, just trying to see."
Interesting that he would compare studios spewing out movies to a firehose, especially since he currently has a movie going out on Netflix, probably the biggest offender of the "firehose" distribution method.
Seinfeld is estimating that reels and chopped-up videos are replacing long-form entertainment. He said:
Disorientation replaced the movie business. Everyone I know in show business, every day, is going, What’s going on? How do you do this? What are we supposed to do now?
