India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India would "definitely look into" the evidence that Nikhil Gupta tried to assassinate a US-Canadian dual citizen at the direction of an Indian government official.

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, an individual whom India designated as a terrorist, was the target of the attack.

Pannun, however, said he is only an activist.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has already come out and accused India of directing another assassination and of sheltering "Khalistani terrorists and extremists" that India sees as a security threat.

The Canada-India relationship has suffered from the allegations, but Trudeau said he tried to use quiet diplomacy before going public.

Trudeau's public comments were meant to "chill" India from any further attempts.
