Indiana Reaches $20 Million Settlement In Google Privacy Lawsuit

January 2, 2023

It should be noted that settlement agreements are not necessarily an admission of guilt, but Google doesn't look very good in this one.

Recently, Google decided to resolve "Indiana's privacy lawsuit alleging the technology giant participated in deceptive location tracking by agreeing to pay a $20 million settlement," according to Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita.

Rokita, a Republican, explained how important a step this is in fighting against the partnership liberals have created with the big tech industry:

This settlement is another manifestation of our steadfast commitment to protect Hoosiers from Big Tech’s intrusive schemes. We will continue holding these companies accountable for their improper manipulation of consumers.

The state of Indiana argued that Google should pay for lying to customers for years, saying:

Google has deceived and misled users about its practices since at least 2014.

The tech giant addressed the settlement by saying it was part of the process of adding transparency, declaring:

Over the past few years, we’ve introduced more transparency and tools to help you manage your data and minimize the data we collect.
