House Republicans are calling for the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
The calls come after a week of chaos at the southern border of the United States, as illegal migration activity soars.
The House Judiciary Committee is responsible for conducting impeachments, and many of its members say they support moving forward with the impeachment process.
"He should be impeached as soon as humanly possible," Rep. Chip Roy of Texas said to reporters this week.
"I support beginning impeachment hearings. I’ve said that to chairman [Jim] Jordan. My constituents think it’s long overdue, and I feel as though once we lay out the facts for the American people and for my colleagues in the House, it’ll be inevitable," said Rep. Ben Cline of Virginia.
"Mayorkas has done more to help the cartels and child traffickers than he has to help the American people. It is clear he is intentionally violating the law and he must be impeached," Rep. Barry Moore of Alabama said.
The urgency for Mayorkas' impeachment comes as the Biden administration lifted the Title 42 border protection rule last week.
The end of Title 42 was instantly followed by two days of border officials apprehending more than 10,000 illegal migrants PER DAY.
These illegal migrant totals were the highest single-day totals ever recorded.
