An illegal Cuban immigrant released into the U.S. in 2012 by ICE who decapitated his girlfriend in public in 2021 has had his murder conviction reversed due to mental illness, according to Breitbart News.

Alexi Saborit-Viltres beheaded his girlfriend, 55-year-old America Mafalda Thayer, in broad daylight in front of several witnesses, but Judge Caroline Lennon looked at his background of delusions, a brain injury, and hallucinations and decided he didn't understand that his actions were wrong.

Following "bizarre delusions" in 2013, Saborit-Viltres suffered a brain injury in a car accident in 2017 and was convinced in 2020 that there was a camera installed in his brain after the accident.

He told police at the time of the murder that he had done it because Thayer was going to leave him.

He had been convicted of premeditated first-degree murder in May, before the conviction was reversed.

Thayer worked for MyPillow.
