House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Republican from California, has plans to be speaker of the House next year.
He's promised that one of the first things he'll do in his new position is remove Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The reason Omar's getting the boot? Racism, plain and simple.
Antisemitism, to be exact.
"We watch antisemitism grow, not just on our campuses, but we watched it grow in the halls of Congress," McCarthy recently declared at the Republican Jewish Coalition's 2022 leadership meeting in Las Vegas. "I promised you last year that as speaker she will no longer be on Foreign Affairs, and I’m keeping that promise."
McCarthy is the frontrunner to be the next speaker of the House once Republicans take the majority in January.
That being said, it is not certain that the job is already his. The slim majority Republicans are expected to have might make things a tiny bit complicated.
