Speaker Mike Johnson opposes release of House Ethics Committee report on Matt Gaetz

 November 17, 2024

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has come out and stated that he does not believe that the House Ethics Committee should release its report on the former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

Gaetz resigned from the House this week after he was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump for the role of attorney general.

The ex-congressman has been an outspoken ally of Trump's and has paid the price for his attacks on Democrats and the corrupt members of the Republican Party.

Gaetz has been battling salacious accusations of having sex with a 17-year-old, which were investigated by Merrick Garland's Department of Justice, and no charges were ever filed in the matter.

This hasn't stopped Gaetz's enemies in both parties from attacking him as a sexual offender. Now Gaetz's enemies are pushing for the House Ethics Committee to release its report, but it seems that may not happen.

With Speaker Johnson coming forward and effectively ordering the sealing of the report, Gaetz's enemies will have to find another way to smear and slander his name.
