House GOP wants Bragg to testify over Trump indictment that hasn't happened yet

House GOP leaders notified Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in a letter on Monday that they want him to testify before them about his investigation into former President Donald Trump's alleged payment to Stormy Daniels and the expected indictment of Trump this week.

“In light of the serious consequences of your actions, we expect that you will testify about what plainly appears to be a politically motivated prosecutorial decision,” the Republicans, including Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Oversight Committee chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY), and Administration Committee chairman Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI) wrote.

In addition to his testimony, they asked Bragg to provide numerous documents related to the investigation.

A Trump indictment would “erode confidence in the evenhanded application of justice and unalterably interfere in the course of the 2024 presidential election,” they said.

Bragg pursued the investigation into Trump even though federal agencies including the FBI and DOJ declined to charge him.

A number of liberal and conservative legal experts have said they don't think a Trump indictment on the grounds Bragg is pursuing would be legitimate or appropriate.
