House Democrats denied entry to Department of Education

Donald Trump promised to drain the swamp, and he's spent the first few weeks of his second term keeping that promise.

One of the ways that Trump plans to cut costs is by thinning the ranks of federal employees wherever possible.

Democrats' overspending and their love of big government has put American taxpayers on the hook for far more in the way of expenses than we should be paying. One of the things on Trump's chopping block is the U.S. Department of Education.

After Trump's recent announcement that he wanted to dismantle the agency, more than a dozen House Democrats descended on the Education Department to meet with acting Education Secretary Denise Carter.

They were denied entry into the building and told that they needed an appointment or an escort to enter the premises.

"We are here to ask her, will you comply with an illegal executive order to shut down the Department of Education?" Rep. Mark Takano, a Democrat from California, said.

"Although the president is determined to shut Congress out of the process, he will not. We will not allow it. We will not cede the responsibility for our future generations to one man, his ideology and his unelected lieutenants," Takano continued.

Do you agree with Donald Trump's determination to cut federal spending? Is he justified in making the Department of Education one of his first targets?
