Holocaust Survivor And Dancer Eva Fahidi Passes Away

September 12, 2023

It's a sad day across the entire world.

Hungarian Holocaust survivor and famous dancer Eva Fahidi has passed away at the age of 97.

She was entertaining audiences well into her nineties.

"It is with great sadness that we learned this morning that Eva Fahidi-Pusztai, survivor of the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps and committed fighter for democracy and human rights, died in Budapest," the Memorial Foundation Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora said. "We will sorely miss her wisdom and warmth."

At just the age of 18, Fahidi was rounded up by Axis forces and put on a train to Auschwitz. She was one of 440,000 Hungarian Jews to be sent to death camps during just three months of summer in 1944.

Forty-nine of Fahidi's family members died in the concentration camps.

It took Eva nearly six decades before she was ready to talk about her trauma.

Once she did, she taught the world how to survive, how to grieve, and how to heal, saying:

I discovered that hatred is just a burden. What happened happened.
