Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) announced on Tuesday that he would introduce a bill providing for a nationwide ban on TikTok in the United States.

“.@tiktok_us is China’s backdoor into Americans’ lives. It threatens our children’s privacy as well as their mental health. Last month Congress banned it on all government devices. Now I will introduce legislation to ban it nationwide,” Hawley tweeted.

TikTok is already banned from government devices after a previous bill was made part of an omnibus spending bill that was passed by Congress and signed by President Joe Biden before the holidays.

The previous bill was also put forward by Hawley along with Sen. Tim Scott (R-FL).

Top Biden officials have also raised their own reservations about TikTok. CIA Director William Burns called it a "real concern."

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said, “Well, it’s that private information could potentially end up in Chinese hands and used in ways that would negatively impact Americans."
