Harvey Weinstein, found guilty of rape and assault, gets another 16 years in prison

 February 26, 2023

Disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein was slapped with 16 additional years in prison following his recent conviction on charges of raping and assaulting an Italian actor and model in 2016.

The sentence was handed down on Thursday by a Los Angeles judge, and the 16 years will be in addition to the 23 years that Weinstein is serving for a conviction received in 2020.

In a statement to Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lisa B. Lench, Weinstein stated "I maintain that I’m innocent. I never raped or sexually assaulted Jane Doe 1."

Jane Doe 1 testified against Weinstein saying, "Before that night I was a very happy and confident woman. I valued myself and the relationship I had with God. I was excited about my future. Everything changed after the defendant brutally assaulted me. There is no prison sentence long enough to undo the damage."

This conviction may very well put Weinstein away for the rest of his life, as he is 70 years old and wouldn't get out of prison until he is over 90.

The exposure of Weinstein's predatory behavior led to the downfall of a Hollywood titan and started a movement that changed the nation. Thankfully, the conclusion of this saga ended with at least some of Weinstein's victims receiving justice.
