Harris forgets words to Pledge of Allegiance during Senate ceremony

 January 4, 2025

Vice President Kamala Harris has been humiliated on too many occasions to count over the years, and such instances are usually self-inflicted, given the sheer volume of cringe statements she has made since taking office.

However, her most recent embarrassing moment could very well land at the top of a long list of gaffes for the freshly defeated vice president.

According to the New York Post, Harris, while overseeing the swearing in of new senators at the U.S. Capitol, seemed to forget the words of the Pledge of Allegiance.

As the 119th Congress was getting underway, Harris started to recite the pledge, or at least some of it, having apparently forgotten several of the key opening words.

"I pledge allegiance to the United States of America," Harris said, leaving out the phrase "the flag of."

Of course, as most of us learned in grade school, the words are, "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Even worse for Harris is that she was caught backtracking and seemingly truly didn't know the words to the simple sentence.

The New York Post noted:

In a video clip of the major blunder, senators could be heard reciting the pledge correctly and Harris, 60, seemed to doubleback, repeating the words, “United States of America” after hearing members of the upper chamber correctly say, “to the flag of” as she flubbed the line.

One can be sure that Harris' flub immediately went viral as social media users picked her apart for not knowing the patriotic verse typically learned in childhood.

"They do it on purpose because they hate America. This is not an act. This is not oversight. This is HATRED," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Honestly, as VP there is no WAY you should stumble on that, especially when you are performing one of your most important official capacities. I’m looking forward to January!"

"If the Pledge of Allegiance had a little part about ‘the significance of the passage of time’ or ‘the wheels on the bus’ Kamala Harris would’ve nailed it,” conservative commentator Tony Kinnett.

Frankly, this was the last thing Harris needed to mess up. But here we are.
