George Soros' son Alex meets with VP candidate Tim Walz at DNC
The Democratic National Convention in Chicago wrapped up on Thursday, with presidential nominee Kamala Harris offering her backers a speech that critics said lacked the type of policy specifics needed to successfully battle Donald Trump come November.
However, one left-wing power player who appears perfectly happy with the direction of the 2024 race is Alex Soros, son of billionaire progressive philanthropist George Soros, who took time out of his visit to the Windy City to sit down with vice-presidential hopeful Tim Walz, as Fox News reports, in a meeting captured in images posted to social media.
Soros, Walz confer in Chicago
Walz, currently serving as the governor of Minnesota, delivered a speech on Wednesday in which he formally accepted the party's vice-presidential nomination, and it was the very next day that he enjoyed an in-person chat with Soros.
The scion of the Soros fortune was so delighted to have a chance to meet with Walz that he posted photos of the encounter on X.
The images show Soros engaged in conversation with Walz, with the pair also joined by former Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, who is also Soros' fiancée.
Soros wrote in the post containing the photos, “Walzified! Walzpilled! Great to meet with our future VP, coach Walz here in Chicago.”
Father, son throw weight behind Harris
Though few expected any divergence from past electoral cycles in terms of party preference, Alex and George Soros made a point earlier this summer of making their support known for Harris' burgeoning -- and somewhat unexpected -- presidential bid.
As the U.K. Independent explains, it was not long after President Joe Biden withdrew from his re-election campaign last month that the Soros duo entered the fray and joined those coalescing around the VP as the party's new standard-bearer.
In the wake of Biden's announcement, Alex Soros swifty posted an image that included Harris to social media and wrote, “It's time for us all to united around Kamala Harris and beat Donald Trump.”
“She is the best and most qualified candidate we have. Long live the American Dream!” he added.
Longstanding ties
Alex Soros' rapport with Harris is nothing new, with Fox News reporting last summer that he even met with the VP at her private residence together with a number of other high-dollar Democratic donors.
At the time, the younger Soros made no secret of his visit, posting to social media, “Great to catch up with Madame Vice President, Kamala Harris,” emphasizing his close ties to the administration in general and the vice president in particular.
Soon after that meeting, George Soros was reported to have passed the torch of his financial and charitable empire to Alex, endeavors valued at roughly $25 billion, according to the BBC, saying that the 37-year-old had “earned it.”
With Alex Soros having already taken control of his father's Open Society Foundations the December prior as well as his highly influential super PAC, it appears that, for better or worse, the Soros name will remain synonymous with massive infusions of money into a host of far-left causes and candidates at the local, state, and federal level for decades to come
