A man who became the center of a conspiracy theory about the Jan. 6 capitol riots has filed a defamation lawsuit against Fox News, claiming that the cable network made him the scapegoat for the American Capitol insurrection.
Raymond Epps is a former Marine who claims that he was forced out of his home in Arizona because of threats.
Epps is asking for unspecified damages and a jury trial.
The lawsuit has already been filed in Superior Court in Delaware, the same court where Dominion Voting Systems sued Fox for allegedly broadcasting lies after the 2020 presidential election.
In that case, Fox agreed to pay Dominion $787 million to settle.
"In the aftermath of the events of January 6th, Fox News searched for a scapegoat to blame other than Donald Trump or the Republican Party," Epps' lawsuit reads. "Eventually, they turned on one of their own."
The lawsuit claims that Fox falsely painted Epps as a plant meant to be whipping up trouble that would be blamed on Trump supporters.
