Mike Gill, a former official in the Trump administration, is in critical condition after he was shot Monday night in his car during a carjacking attempt in Washington, D.C.

Gill was picking up his wife from work when the carjacking occurred.

The carjacker left Gill's car after shooting him and carjacked several other cars before police finally caught up to him, and he died in a shootout with police. One of his other carjacking victims was also shot and later died at the hospital.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said during a press conference on Tuesday that there is no longer any threat to the community from this incident.

Gill was working as a senior vice president for Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council in D.C.

A statement from the family's spokesperson said that Gill is “an amazing husband, father, friend and colleague.” He is the type of person who makes friends with everyone, Erica Richardson continued, and he loves his three children and his wife.
