A former official in Donald Trump's administration who was shot during a carjacking in Washington, D.C., last week has died.

Mike Gill, 53, passed away Saturday after sustaining critical injuries in the incident.

The man who tried to carjack Gill and several others during a Monday spree that also killed another man was shot dead by police early Tuesday morning when he pulled two handguns on officers.

Gill previously worked at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission under Trump and was most recently a senior vice president for Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council.

He was picking up his wife from work when the carjacking occurred.

"His sudden departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled," wife Kristina Gill said, adding that he was "not only a devoted husband and father but also a cherished son, brother, and friend."
