Democrat House Judiciary Committee ex-counsel defends Trump against lawfare

 January 12, 2025

Former Democratic chief counsel for the House Judiciary Committee Julian Epstein appeared on Fox News to defend President-elect Donald Trump from what he described as a "gross abuse" of justice in the legal cases he has faced.

Epstein explained that the indictments against Trump were entirely political as the charges brought against him would never have been brought against anyone other than the now-president-elect.

Epstein told host Elizabeth MacDonald, "This is essentially a gross abuse of the justice system. The unconditional discharge today is the judicial equivalent of saying never mind. They put the country through this for two years, all for naught. It’s an abuse of the legal system because no American ever in the history of this country has been prosecuted on this fact pattern, and your viewers don’t need to know anything else other than that."

He then went on to break down every single violation of legal norms that the hush-money indictment against Trump embodied.

Epstein stated, "There was never any notice as to what the actual charges were. The jury was able to pick from a menu of possible offenses. There was no unanimity requirement in the jury decision, and the reason it was such a gross abuse was because to the extent that this involved federal campaign finance charges, there is nothing in federal campaign finance law that says hush money is a reportable offense, as Alvin Bragg alleged."

The only reason the case survived was because it was safely insulated in the New York court system, which is entirely staffed by leftists determined to convict Trump. Now that Trump has been sentenced and can appeal the outcome, Bragg's political case will truly collapse.
