Former Clinton strategist says Biden will drop out of race, 'walls are closing in'

According to many powerful and in-the-know Democrats and operatives, President Joe Biden's campaign is all but over.

According to Fox News, even former Bill Clinton strategist Paul Begala projected earlier this week that Biden's campaign is toast in the wake of his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump.

Begala made the admission during a recent CNN appearance in the wake of growing calls for Biden to drop out of the race from within the upper echelon of the Democratic Party.

He indicated that after reaching out to his contacts inside and outside of Congress, he only found "one" who's still "ridin' for Biden."

"I've been talking to a lot of people, a lot of members in the Senate and House, major donors, activists, party chairs and I got to tell you, I think I‘ve come across one who is still ridin’ for Biden," Begala said. "So the walls are closing in."

The prediction is a familiar one. Pressure mounted quickly in the wake of the debate for Biden to drop out, however, the president received some respite from the pressure after the failed attempt on former President Donald Trump's life at a Pennsylvania rally last weekend.

But when the dust settled from that nightmare, the heat was back on, and it became even hotter than it was in late June and early July.

Powerful Democrats, including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), have reportedly been working behind the scenes to convince the elderly, often-confused president to drop out of the race and give down-ticket Democrats a chance at winning elections that will likely be lost if he remains at the top of the ticket.

Fox News noted:

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a longtime Biden ally, has made this argument in private calls to the president, according to CNN. Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer has also "forcefully" argued to Biden that it would be best if he "bowed out of the race," according to a report from ABC News chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl.

Begala joked about the situation but was serious at the same time about Biden taking advice from Pelosi and others, saying "It's like that Carrie Underwood song, ‘Jesus, take the wheel,’ I’ve been saying, ‘Nancy, take the wheel."

He also pointed to the money math, noting that many Biden mega-donors have turned off the spigot in the wake of the debate.

"It comes down to money, maps and polls. The money has dried up," Begala continued. "I can tell you that I raised money for a lot of super PACs. It has dried up. Donors are on strike, to the tune of, somebody reported, $90 million? It's more like $300 million that people are sitting on saying they're not going to give."

Recent unconfirmed reports have indicated that Biden could be preparing to withdraw from the race soon, given the tremendous pressure from within the party to do so.
