Former CBS investigative journalist Catherine Herridge opens up about network killing Hunter Biden laptop story

 November 5, 2024

Catherine Herridge, a veteran investigative journalist who once worked for Fox News and later CBS News, decided to spill it all regarding CBS News' efforts to "kill" the Hunter Biden laptop story.

According to the New York Post, Herridge opened up about the ordeal, which eventually led to her exit from the left-leaning network, saying she felt "sick" watching a CBS broadcast in the lead-up to the 2020 election when the host of 60 Minutes said that the laptop "couldn't be verified."

The efforts to kill the Hunter Biden laptop story were far and wide across most of the mainstream media, with the exception of Fox News and a few others.

Many believe that it was a desperate attempt to save then-candidate Joe Biden's chances of winning the 2020 election against former President Donald Trump, given the damaging contents of the laptop that were later verified and very real.

The award-winning investigative journalist presented the network with rock-solid verification that the contents of the laptop were authentic, but that didn't seem to matter to CBS brass.

The Post noted:

In her bombshell allegation, Herridge revealed she brought evidence to CBS News executive Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews and “CBS Evening News” anchor Norah O’Donnell in early October 2020 that the laptop contained material about “a million dollar retainer from a Chinese energy firm,” along with business texts and emails from the son of Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

Later that month, just before voters headed to the polls, Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes said during the program that the contents of the laptop "couldn't be verified" during his interview with Trump.

"As I watched the broadcast, I felt sick," Herridge said. "I knew the laptop records could be vetted and confirmed."

Herridge also revealed some inside baseball from the network, noting that 60 Minutes was not working with the outlets news division on the topic, with Herridge saying there was a massive "disconnect" between the two entities.

"I told Ciprian-Matthews the vetted materials included a million-dollar retainer from a Chinese energy firm, emails with Hunter Biden’s former business partner Tony Bobulinski as well as Hunter Biden text messages," Herridge said as she recalled how she handled the bombshell story at the time.

Asked by Ciprian-Matthews if there was a ‘Hunter connection,’ I responded, ‘Yes, all of them,'" she added.

The New York Post was the only media outlet that ran with the story and verified it, which led to the network being temporarily banned and ghosted across social media networks, namely Twitter, making all links to the story non-existent or dead.

Herridge was fired from the network earlier this year, and the network seized all of her reporting materials. It's not surprising, but it's still disgusting.
