Majority In Florida Support Abortion Restrictions Once Heartbeat Detected: Poll

March 9, 2023

A recent poll revealed Florida voters would support a bill to protect unborn babies once a heartbeat can be detected.

"Ragnar Research conducted the poll on behalf of SBA Pro-Life America and the Florida Family Policy Council with 500 Floridians between February 27-March with a ±4 percent margin of error," reports Breitbart.

The survey comes ahead of Florida Republican lawmakers' plans to introduce similar bills in the state House and Senate this week that would ban abortions in Florida after six weeks of pregnancy with exceptions.

62%  of Florida residents support the bill with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother.

"When it comes to protecting children in Florida, both born and unborn, we should always do the right thing irrespective of the political consequences," said John Stemberger, president and general counsel of the Florida Family Policy Council. "But it is also good to know that over 60 percent of Floridians want to see an unborn child protected after a detectable heartbeat."

"This makes a heartbeat bill in Florida good policy and good politics. We will continue to work to protect mothers and their unborn children and advocate for providing help and support for them through both private and public resources. We can and should love them both," Stemberger added.

The White House said that surrounding states rely on Florida’s current 15-week abortion law, condemning the proposed six-week ban.

"This ban would prevent not just the nearly 4 million Florida women of reproductive age from accessing abortion care after six weeks but would also impact the nearly 15 million women of reproductive age who live in states across the South with abortion bans and would no longer be able to rely on Florida as an option to access care," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.
