Florida legislative session end sparks speculation about DeSantis 2024 presidential run

The Florida legislative session ended on Friday, but the speculation about when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) will officially begin his run for the presidency in 2024 has risen to a furor.

“We have had a historic legislative session this year!” DeSantis exulted on social media. “Thank you to the Legislature for working together to deliver for Floridians all over our state.”

“I don’t think we’ve seen a six-month stretch that has ever been this productive in the history of our state, and I would put us up against any state in the modern history of our country,” DeSantis said Friday at a press conference.

DeSantis and the legislature enacted tax relief, parental rights agenda items, protecting children from gender-transitioning health care, and moving anti-environmental, social, and governance (ESG) legislation forward.

Political experts and sources close to DeSantis have said he plans to announce his candidacy officially soon after the legislative session is over, and not a moment too soon.

He has been losing ground to former President Donald Trump since Trump was indicted in early April on felony charges of falsifying business records, which has only seemed to make him more popular with Republicans.
