The matriarch of the Kansas City Chiefs and widow of founder Lamar Hunt, Norma Hunt died at age 85, but it is not known exactly when or how she died.

Hunt was known as the "First Lady of Football" and had attended every Super Bowl until her death.

Her family released a statement confirming her death on Sunday but gave few details about it.

"Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of our mother, Norma," the statement reads. "She was a wonderful mother and an extraordinary woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew her."

It continued, "Kind, generous and unfailingly positive, mom was one of a kind. Her joy and zeal for life were infectious. She loved caring for others, and she always had an encouraging word. She was a loyal friend, the consummate hostess and she had a rare ability to make everyone she encountered feel valued and at ease."

In February when she attended what would be her last Super Bowl, she got to see the Chiefs win.
