First lady Jill Biden set to campaign in husband's stead in key swing state
First lady Jill Biden has taken over her husband's campaign and will appear in Pittsburgh on Wednesday to speak at the Italian Sons and Daughters dinner.
Vice President Kamala Harris will also be in Pennsylvania but will be speaking in Philadelphia. Notably absent from Pennsylvania is President Joe Biden himself, who won't be appearing even while his opponent is hard at work campaigning in the key swing state.
Trump held a rally in Pennsylvania Saturday which was interrupted by a would-be assassin who failed to kill the former president but managed to kill a supporter in the crowd and critically injure two others.
Even as his Secret Service detail hustled him off the stage under fire, Trump raised his fist and called on his supporters to "fight" even as he bled from his grazed ear.
The optics of the situation, in spite of the tragedy that resulted, have boosted Trump's campaign in ways that his strategists could never have imagined. Trump looks more powerful and unstoppable than ever.
Meanwhile, Biden is sending his wife and his vice president to campaign in his stead while Trump endures an assassin's attack. Pennsylvania could very well decide the election, and Biden is hiding in the White House.
