'Feminist' Broadway musical produced by Hillary Clinton set to end its run early

A "feminist" Broadway musical about women's suffrage that listed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as one of the producers is set to close in January after less than a year because it's not making enough money, even though it won Tony Awards.

Producers announced Friday that Suffs would end on Jan.8, then embark on a national tour in 2025. It was capitalized to earn $19 million but will probably fall short of those numbers.

As far back as May, it was only reaching 80% capacity over a week's time, and for the week of Oct. 6 it only earned $679,589, which doesn't typically cover the costs of a Broadway show with a large cast.

With 24 previews and 301 performances, the show's run will be slightly shorter than average for Broadway.

Afghan influencer Malala Yousafzai was another producer of the show, but it ran afoul of some progressives who thought it was too "white" and didn't represent the "next generation" of feminism.

The show got positive reviews from critics and won the Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score in June. Clinton was able to introduce a performance from the show during the awards and used the opportunity to remind people to vote.
