FBI catches Jim Biden making deals in unrelated probe

The Washington Post reported Sunday that the FBI caught James Biden negotiating business deals on surveillance tapes it obtained as part of an unrelated bribery case.

Richard “Dickie” Scruggs, who spent five years in jail on bribery charges, apparently had an ongoing relationship with James Biden after paying him $100,000 to get then-Senator Joe Biden's support to approve a massive payment by tobacco companies in the 1990s.

Biden did support the legislation, although it failed in Congress, and the two were poised to start a lobbying firm that would have included Hunter Biden in 2008 just as Joe Biden was about to become vice president. Then Scruggs got caught paying off a judge and was indicted.

The Post claims (of course) that the tapes and Scruggs's statements don't "prove" that Joe Biden knew anything about what his brother (and wife Sara) were doing, but the House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed them and their business, Lion Hall, that received the payment.

According to the committee, Joe Biden was referred to as "the Big Guy" by at least five Biden business associates on the tapes.

Associates referred to what they were buying as the "Biden brand."
