Ex-Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, wife jailed

 February 4, 2024

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were jailed after a court in their home country found that their marriage of seven years was un-Islamic and illegal.

Khan was already jailed on corruption charges stemming from accusations that he and his wife were profiting from state gifts.

The former prime minister was removed from his post in 2022, and he claims that accusations against him are all politically motivated.

The marriage-related complaint was brought against the couple by Bibi's ex-husband, who accused her of remarrying too soon after their divorce. Pakistani law provides that women are forbidden from remarrying for several months after their husband dies or they are divorced.

The court agreed with those accusations, and Khan and Bibi were hit with a seven-year jail sentence, and the court also imposed a fine of 500,000 rupees on Khan and Bibi.

Things have gone terribly for Khan these past few years following his meteoric rise to power. There is a good chance he will now spend the rest of his life in jail, considering he is 71 years old.
