EU staff told to delete TikTok from their phones

European Commission staff members were told in an email on Thursday to delete Chinese-owned app TikTok from their phones and any personal devices with work content on them.

“To protect Commission’s data and increase its cybersecurity, the EC Corporate Management Board has decided to suspend the TikTok application on corporate devices and personal devices enrolled in the Commission mobile device service,” the email sent to staff read.

Staff has until March 15 to comply with the directive; if they don't, they will be considered not compliant.

The EU is joining other countries including the U.S., which has partially banned TikTok on government devices.

Momentum is growing to pass a total ban on the platform in the U.S., according to Rep. Bill King (R-NH), who reintroduced legislation to do so with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).

TikTok is the 3rd-most used social media network in the U.S.
